As Californians, we believe that EVERYONE should have an opportunity to thrive, with fair wages, good jobs, and quality schools. We believe that opportunity should not be based on where you were born or what you look like.

We can help dismantle systemic racism and gender discrimination by passing Prop 16 in November, but we can’t get there without you!

RSVP to our Campaign Kick-Off Rally to give equal opportunity to all Californians.

    Happy Juneteenth 2020!

We are in some exciting and challenging times, as the our nation is recognizing and working to right the wrongs to the Black community in our nation, as we celebrate 155 years of freedom.

The African American Caucus is in this fight, working to create better polices, better representation, and working to create change from a community, policy and pipeline building standpoint.

In order to accomplish those goals, we need a strong membership of Black Democratic Leaders and allies, to step in and step up. In honor and celebration of our continued strength, fight and freedom, we ask you to become members of the African American Caucus.

NOTE: DSCC Members, our annual Membership Dues are due and in order to VOTE at the next Executive Board meeting July 25th-27th, you must renew TODAY!

Renew and Become a Member: https://cdpmembers.com

Thank you to everyone out celebrating, marching and elevating Black voice, be safe and Happy Juneteenth!

    In solidarity,
    Taisha Brown
    Chair
    African American Caucus

This was shared from Tom Steyer:

Today is Juneteenth — a day when African American families and friends get together to celebrate an important milestone in ending slavery in America. This year it has become a day to stand for Black lives, support racial justice, and emphasize education of this history. We invite you to recognize the holiday by taking the following actions:

Attend local or virtual events today and throughout this weekend. Find one near you.

Support Black businesses and encourage others to do the same. Help reach the $5 million goal in 15 days. Click here to learn more.
Sign the petition to demand Reparations.
    In solidarity,
    Team Tom

    A brief background on Juneteenth
The Emancipation Proclamation was issued on January 1, 1863 and freed enslaved African Americans in the Confederacy. However, the Emancipation Proclamation wasn’t announced and enforced in Texas until June 19, 1865 — two and half years after it was issued. After that announcement, the Proclamation had finally reached all those enslaved in the Confederate states. Juneteenth commemorates that event.

From @AsmShirleyWeber on Twitter: Thank you to my Assembly colleagues and all the supporters for making history happen today. The journey to right a wrong moves to the Senate. The end vote was 60-14 with bi-partisan support. It’s time to let a new generation decide to expand opportunity for all #ACA5
